Traces of Identity: An Insider's View of the LA Armenian Community, 2000-2004
"Many cultures share the need for a scribe or someone who chronicles our collective daily
existence, our shared pedestrian lifestyle.  In the Cultural Cuisinart we call Los Angeles,
we actively and openly share randomly chosen visual vignettes - sneak peeks into each
other’s every day lives - both the secretively forbidden as well as the conspicuously
obvious.  Image making and the photographic arts have long been the scribes, the
chronicler’s methodology of choice.  Ara Oshagan in chronicling the Greater Los Angeles
Armenian community has developmentally taken the chronicler’s craft to the next level.
Ara not only visually defines and redefines who L.A.’s Armenians are, he candidly
demystifies a constantly evolving community purposefully sharing with his audience both
the role of the Armenian community as an ethno-specific island onto itself and as an
integral vibrant part of the whole."
